    Time Event
    2:41p
    Three AM

I guess life isn't so bad, stolen car aside. When I was up at 3 a.m. last night to feed River (and subsequently waiting for him to fall deeply asleep in the swing so I could put him in the crib without waking him), I checked my e-mail and got two bits of good news:

My Marlaverse story "Grander than the Sea" from The Solaris Book of New Fantasy will be reprinted in David Hartwell & Kathryn Cramer's Year's Best Fantasy 8, coming out in June 2008. This is Marla's first appearance in a Year's Best! And a nice return to the Year's Best Fantasy series, which reprinted my stories in volumes 4, 5, and 6, but not 7 -- I thought they didn't love me anymore, but apparently I just had an off year. This is my second Year's Best appearance for the year (I've also got one upcoming in Rich Horton's Best Science Fiction of the Year.)

I also got word from Steve Eley at Escape Pod that he wants to buy my SF story "Artifice and Intelligence" for the podcast. Coming soon to ears near you! I'm glad it's going to have an audio form, because it's a story I've performed aloud before, and it always goes over really well.

I should check my e-mail at 3 a.m. more often, apparently.
