    B-Day

Yesterday was my lovely wife Heather's birthday! She is now 35! (I can reveal her age because she did; I have violated no husbandly code. Go wish her a happy one! Also, you should read that entry to find out about her fabulous schedule for when she goes back to work in March. Life is suddenly looking so much better.) I had to work all day -- A Certain Magazine went to press yesterday -- but I came home bearing delicious triple fudge cake and a couple of gifts. It was not a wild birthday night -- we were both exhausted, and were in bed by a bit after 7 p.m. Ah, life with a newborn. Still, I'll cook her a birthday dinner tonight, and Saturday we're going out with friends to celebrate, so we're just stretching out the fun!

Our shower still doesn't drain, despite the intercession of a plumber. Our landlord also broke a drain snake trying to clear the mysterious clog. So life isn't all rainbows and chocolate pie.

This, my day off deferred, will be devoted largely to, well, work. As usual. But at least I can work in my bathrobe.

    Reviews and River

There's an extensive and positive review of Flytrap 8 at The Fix (which is a great review site in general, by the way). The reviewer slightly laments our production values (we're a photocopied 'zine, damn it, and we're going to stay that way!) but seemed to greatly enjoy the contents, so I'm pleased. (Is it strange that I feel more pride in the good reviews and crankiness about the bad reviews when it comes to the 'zine I co-edit than when it comes to my own books and stories? Hmm...)

Now for one of the few things that makes me even prouder than my 'zine: pictures of my son from his 11th week of life!

Hmm, baby has been napping for nearly three hours... better go tickle him awake, or he'll be up half the night!
