Bone Shop: Chapter One

The first part of my reader-supported novella Bone Shop is online today: Chapter One: In which Marla converses with a pyromaniac, commits some minor crimes, and hears a curious proposition.

I've also indulged my love for afterwords and authorial blather, including some author notes on the chapter. There's a link at the bottom of the page linked above, if you're interested in such things.

Please read, and enjoy (I hope), and spread the word. The response and support from readers and the SF/F community has been really heartening so far.

A fine start.

Curious. What is the Bone Shop font?

It's called.... gah I can't remember! It's the font they use on the covers of my books, and I actually just hacked together the title by photoshop-combining letters from my book covers. I have the name of it written down somewhere, but can't recall it offhand.

Oh! You got a plug on _Smart Bitches, Trashy Books_, which has got to help. Hooray!

It looks awesome, and I can't wait to read. Is there a chance, though, that you might change the bright yellow background to something a little darker? Obviously not if I'm the only one to mention it, but I'm finding it makes it difficult for me to focus on the words.

Bright yellow? Hmm... it's supposed to be black text on a white background! What browser are you using? I'm colorblind, but I can make somebody color-sighted look at it for me...

Oh! Well, it is black text on white background, but surrounding the text box, the actual page background is a hi-lighter yellow that isn't very easy on the eyes. I'm using IE, admittedly, which isn't my usual, and haven't seen this in Firefox, but that seems like something that should be the same across the board.

Yuck! I didn't check it in Explorer, which I should have. There must be some malformed color tag in the page source somewhere. I'll ferret it out. Thanks for letting me know!

Okay, found the messed-up tags. It's still not pretty in IE, and the header image is screwy, but the bright yellow should be gone!

millions of souls - the Walking Death would count the ghosts and the souls who had passed, perhaps; if it's half a mill now, they must all total up several times that since the Founders?
